The brutal slaying of George Floyd, has lead to a spiritual awaking of the Black consciousness.
The last couple years have ushered in an affinity to "buy Black", and this affinity has led to the creation of many local businesses. Coupled with the availability to reach more people via, internet and online stores, many entrepreneurs have enjoyed the sudden surge of pride that has lead to a more than usual stream of customers. Why A Black out day? It is estimated that minorities spend over a trillion dollars annually. A trillion dollars is enough to bring any minority community to power or at least give them a set at the table. Or it could if that money was spend in the minority community. All too often, the bulk to that trillions of dollars is being spent in other communities and those communities do not, or will not invest that same money back into the minority community that it came from. For example, I've never see Gucci or any other name brand company use the millions of dollars that is earned from the Black dollar to reinvest in majority minority neighborhoods. Another example is the banks, convenience stores, and liquor stores that are all littered throughout many Black neighborhoods, who do not support, spend money in or help to advance the very neighborhoods who patronize and keep them in business. Most disappointing of those are the banks. These banks take in millions of dollars annually from Black churches and Black business, but make it near impossible to get a small business or low interest loan to help that community but I digress. Why A Black out day? Because it is needed. Many great successes has come from financial boycotts. Although is it only for one day, today 7 July 2020. I hope that the desired income has an effect. I hope that it show the power of the Black dollar and garner respect for the people has been respected the lease. I hope that this one day of recognition will surge Black businesses who have been struggling under that weight of the COVID-19 and social distancing.
